By A. J. NORONHA, m.d., Hoiiy. Physician, J. J. Hospital, Bombay. TwEXvE bottles were supplied for trial in my wards of the preparation named Bazogen, purporting to consist of the extract of Spleen, Pancreas, Thyroid, and Adrenal. The supply of the drug was limited, and a fair trial could not be given. The accompanying charts show that a drop in the temperature occurs even in severe cases with the drug alone. Two cases were kept on Bazogen for some time. One was a case of malignant malaria and the other of malarial cachexia. In the former the temperature recurred as soon as the drug was stopped. In the latter the spleen diminished a little and then enlarged again. In a third case of malarial cachexia the spleen remained unaffected, but the treatment could not be prolonged. It was not possible to determine the effects of

Malaria drug - resistance in Iran
Introduction: Malaria is a public health problem for approximately 2.4 billion people, 40% of the world’s population, particularly in the tropical and subtropical countries. Countries in Asia, and Latin America, the islands of the South, West, and central pacific ocean are all affected. Drug resistance is the greatest challenge in combating against malaria. Drug resistance in malaria is now w...
متن کاملClinical Pharmacology of the Antimalarial Quinine in Children
Quinine is the best studied drug for treating severe malaria in very young children. Quinine may be administered in pregnancy and, at therapeutic doses, malformations have not been reported. Some strains of quinine from Southeast Asia and South America have become resistant. Quinine is the treatment of choice for the drug-resistant severe Plasmodium falciparum. The antimalarial mechanism of qui...
متن کاملComputational Study of Quinolone Derivatives to Improve their Therapeutic Index as Anti-malaria Agents: QSAR and QSTR
Malaria is a parasitic disease with limited chemotherapy options. Chemotherapy options are limited; moreover, drug resistant frequently occurs. The speed of drug development should be faster to overcome the emerging drug resistance. In the current study, a series of quinolone derivatives were subjected to quantitative structure activity relationship to identify the ideal physicochemical charact...

متن کاملThe antimalarial ferroquine: from bench to clinic
Ferroquine (FQ, SSR97193) is currently the most advanced organo-metallic drug candidate and about to complete phase II clinical trials as a treatment for uncomplicated malaria. This ferrocene-containing compound is active against both chloroquine-susceptible and chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax strains and/or isolates. This article focuses on the discovery of FQ, its ant...
